More then ever your library needs your time, thought and concern. If you are interested in spending some time with us in the Galway Public Library, here are just a few of the areas you can help with:
POTENTIAL TASKS FOR LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS
- Adopt A Shelf
- Providing computer assistance
- Assist with community outreach
- Assist with bi-lingual activities
- Assist in collection development projects (check lists against catalog)
- Assist with book sales
- Assist with summer programs
- Assist with storytime
- Assist with float for Memorial Day Parade
- Check Young Adult collection vs. standard lists
- Check collection for Leveled Readers and labeling
- Check in materials
- Shelve materials
- Develop teen web presence
- Assist with supply inventory and maintenance
- Create book/media review newsletter or article
- Assist with development of home book/media delivery
- Create library programs
- Develop book/media top-10 lists (Amazon model)
- Distribute flyers to promote programs
- Assist with maintaining library grounds
- Document programs through photography
- Develop and lead a program
- Shelf Reading
- Create a teen organized library fundraiser to purchase new materials
- Keep statistics for summer programs
- Recruit other teen volunteers
- Provide refreshments for a program
- Straighten the children’s area
- Search Amazon for new materials
- Prepare seasonal holiday materials with recommendations
- Test out problem videos, CD’s, Tapes and DVDs and repair if possible
- Clean shelves and bins
- Write and produce a summer reading skit for school children
- Develop a summer program for teens
- Research artists, musicians and other local experts to provide library programming for teens.
- Write thank you notes as needed.
- Write reviews of materials that might be of interest to children or teens.
